Great Sand Dunes National Park Home

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado.

The sand dunes of San Luis Valley are 440,000 years old, and formed when an ancient lake dried up, leaving sand deposits that blew into these dunes. The other sources of sand are from the tributaries of the Rio Grande River that cut through and erode the local mountains.
