Twin Sisters -
12" x 16" oil pastels on colored paper
The colorful
characters who were the first European Americans to explore the
Cascades gave the mountains equally colorful and descriptive
names like Mount Terror, Mount Despair, Seven-Fingered Jack,
Mount Forbidden and Bonanza Peak. Native Americans traveresed
the Cascades and kept seasonal hunting camps in the mountains
for thousands of years. Homesteaders, loggers, geologists, climbers,
miners and railroad surveyors all risked life and limb to venture
into and explore the wilderness - much of which still remains
- in the Cascade Mountain Range.
