Old Rock the Hermit - 36" x 48" oil acrylic on canvas
Old Rock was
a colorful character who lived in Suttons Bay, Michigan at the
turn of the 19th century. Once an acedemic in Russia, Rock struck
a student who was behaving wildly and who later died. The student
turned out to have been taking drugs, which contributed to his
death. After the terrible incident, Rock chose to move overseas,
lived in a sod hut with his livestock and wore a belt of nails,
forever pressing into his skin, as a way of repenting for his
sins.
